Angelina

You know her. The famous actress. I have a nephew who's lips are similar. When my nephew was a little girl, Angelina was her favorite actress, so I painted this painting as a present to her. My little nephew became a woman. Now she is more beautiful than Angelina!  But she don't knows it... yet!
70x50, Acrylics on canvas (Not available).

Kissing in the sun

30x20 cm canvas on board. Acrylics and oil pastel (Not available). Inspired from a small photo on a magazine. Very fast work and attractive result. It was made to decorate the poster of a painting exhibition some years ago. It belongs to a young woman,  for a while very good friend of mine. I wish the best to her, wherever she is.

Addition (January 2011): Alexandra's visit (the owner of this painting) was a nice surprise to me! She returned for a while to our beautiful island and she didn't forget to meet us for a while. I'm very happy, because some unforgettable things from the past are not just "Dust in the Wind". Sometimes return to remind us the lost paradises of our misery life like promise for the future. Welcome back my lovely friend!

Under the Table.

OK. You know this scene from the famous photo. Anything I like, I try to paint it. For me is just a love action. A game of shapes and colors. A sweet dream when I am awake. Maybe you don't like this painting. For me is a heartbeat, little different from others. A heartbeat kept forever. Not with the help of a camera. Some noble, sacrificed  minutes of a misery life, to a small, different heartbeat. For what are we alive? I am able to answer about myself. Could you?
Acrylics on canvas (possibly not on wooden frame) about 40x30 cm.

The hottest day of Summer

Acrylics on canvas about 50x40 cm. Some years ago. Vivid colors always impress me. This painting proves it. In the last few weeks painting domains all my free time. After some days you will see my  new works. For now, enjoy some older like this one.

The wave

Acrylics on canvas, about 30x40 cm. Written "2001" on down right corner. I don't have memories for this painting! Like million past and forgotten waves in the sea, this one also gone forever. The only memory remained is this nice picture.

Added August 7, 2010:
This painting found! It was a gift to a very good friend of me. After viewing this post he told me so. Nice!

Greek times...

A classic Greek theme. Greek coffee by the sea, traditional table and chair, the machine of a boat disturbing the silence, the sweet smell of the spring roses... What else needs someone to have a good time? Twenty years ago, I was living in Athens, the Greek capital city. When I arrived in Samos island, where I live till now, I was very upset. I missed the noise, the night life, all my friends... The depression frustrated me only for twelve months. Now, I feel that I am in constant vacations, even if I work harder than in Athens. On a bicycle I climb the mountains, I walk into the nature, I love life and... I don't need to spend money to buy imaginative happiness! The happiness is real and under my skin every time. The only sad is that now, in the island, I really care for the smallness of this wonderful life!
Acrylics on canvas, about 50x35cm, made in summer 2009.

Asian seascape

Another one reproduction here. Very simple and quiet seascape with neutral colors. Ir reminds Greek seascapes. The neutral colors were the reason for painting this one. It was an exercise for tonal accuracy. 40x50 cm, acrylics on canvas.

Milos - Aegean Sea

I like very much this painting. The problem is that probably you can't find the reason. Most of my photographs do not represent my painting's colors and tones correctly. I have a fair camera, but I need some lessons to learn. This one is 40x50 cm on canvas, painted last summer with acrylic colors.

Folegandros - Aegean sea

One of the many churches of Folegandros, a small Greek island in Aegean Sea. Painted last summer using acrylics on canvas 40x50 cm. These small white churches seem beautiful, not only if you are near them. When you see them from a distance, they are like shiny valuable jewels into the deep green colors of the Greek landscape. At the island group Kyclades, churches have a cardinal role. The deep blue of Aegean Sea is not enough to define the Greek island. A Greek island needs some decades of churches like this one to earn the title!

A Classical Dancer

Another reproduction. 40x50 cm, acrylics on canvas. (Not available) Made before a couple of months, commissioned from my lovely wife Niki. She loves dance. I love painting, but not so classical themes. At least it looks good...

Soft Kiss

A tender love scene, 15 year old. Acrylics on paper for watercolors, size about A4. I like these cool glamorous scenes. (Not available)

Alla Prima

Acrylics on paper about 36x30 cm. More than 15 years ago. Very fast work without corrections. This painting and many more, done using only three colors and white: Cadmium Yellow, Cadmium Red and Cobalt Blue. It was another nice game for me, to use only primaries. I liked the result but I didn't stay  long on this style. (Not available)

Nude building

55x45 cm , acrylics on canvas. Another reproduction of a recent masterpiece. Last year I was working to improve my ability to recognize the tones. It seems to me like a game. I like this result, even if the woman's body seems like a modern building.

The famus goat

A reproduction of an old masterpiece, present to my dear dentist who likes classical paintings. Acrylics on canvas about 30x40 cm. (Not available) All these relaxing reproductions do not make me proud as an artist, but they improve my skills, so they are essential lessons to me. No need to care about shapes or coloration. Just copy like a camera produces a cold photograph. In this painting the girl doesn't seem like the original but the goat does! (...)

Three big holes

This is not my creation. It is a very old painting (probably before 1930) and belongs to a gentle family of our city. Made with oils on textile. I owned it some days to recover it. There were 3 big holes and hundreds small on the rotten surface. After restoration, it was covered about 90 percent of new colors and the rest by soft colored glazing. Final was sealed using mat varnish. The old yellowed colors remained almost the same but the thousands brown traces were covered. The only thing I left unfixed was the textile looseness on the frame. About 100x50 cm. A beautiful romantic scene into the dark smoke of wars.

Small bay with two fishing boats

When I started painting. before many years, I used to make landscapes. Not particular places. I used to put pieces of a puzzle here and there. A gray mountain, a green tree with some olive and yellow, a blue sea, some boats... All the child's memories painted with almost pure colors. Later my painter's life became more complicated. Painting is not only colors. The first satisfaction went away and the spirit was thirsty for new magic places. To make a landscape is easy, because there are almost no errors. If you make a mountain which is 1000 tons lighter than the mountain you have in your mind, no one will notice it. Not even you. You learn to make mistakes and final you accept them. So landscapes do not see the light often anymore. But sometimes, when I have a bad time (in painting) and want a certain recovery, I paint a nice and easy landscape like this. Beautiful pale colors, boats, rocks etc. This one made with acrylics thin like watercolors, no underpainting, on a 40x50 cm canvas. Isn't it beautiful and relaxing?

Two ladies

A new painting here! Mixed media (acrylics and pastels) on a 24x30 cm canvas. Most of my future works will be painted on that size. This painting after some hours, was gone. My nephew Angela who loves lions, became the next possessor. I'm very glad for this. Not available. The next painting was better! (Coming soon)

The end of a friendship

Here is a lovely married couple, made from a very low quality night-photo taken just before the end of their friendship(!). I have never met them. They seem sweet guys and the "flat" source photo was not so flattering. Acrylics on canvas about 40x50 cm, 2009. (Not available.)

Relaxing girl

Second painting. Vinyl colors on canvas 40x50 cm. Some years ago. Not available. It belongs to a good friend and I am very glad because this lovely painting is in the right hands! Some experiments here, made me a little wiser!

The Beginning

Hello everyone! This is my first post ever. I do not handle well the English language. Sorry about it. I am a self-taught painter. In this blog I will present to you most of my remaining paintings in the last 20 years. Painting is probably my greatest love in this life, while it remains until now just a hobby. I try constantly to improve myself. Every painting became a teacher to me. One painting of three was never completed and now is covered from another image, or white color. Some of the remained were destroyed. I have photos for about one fourth of all my work! My target is to create about  5-10 new paintings every month. All will be published here in this blog.
The very first painting is an old painting. It was inspired from a magazine photo. This one does not exist now. It  has been destroyed after a kind of accident. It was made on a canvas panel about 30x40 cm with casein and mineral powders. Some years ago I stopped using oils for good, because I didn't like the smell and the long waiting to dry. I believe that I will not return to oils again, even if they are better (as all say) than my favorite acrylics. One of the reasons is that painting is just a hobby. Even if I have filled almost two rooms with painting supplies, my workspace for most time is our small kitchen table with two chairs to support. It's enough for me!
